Results

The results of the analysis are most clearly displayed in the map below. The suggested route is overlayed on top of landcover to give backcountry travelers a sense of what their trip would look like. The final proposed route was 25.13 km long which when compared to trip reports found online seems to be accurate.

Alternative Displays

  • If this map were to be made commercially available its final rendering would be reconsidered from the above example. In order to give the map users more information, features such as contour lines and a UTM grid would certainly need to be on the map. Another idea is to allow for the Potential Avalanche Danger Surface show through the landcover so that if a user decided to stray from the path the map would still provide useful information. With the contour lines the map would include labels on all significant peaks and huts.​ Some examples of how to improve the map for commercial use are provided below.
